Jones The Planner - Talk & Discussion
'Athens of the North or Motorway City of the 70's'
'Cities of the North' is the latest book by Adrian Jones and Chris Matthews, based on the successful Jones the Planner blog. Adrian and Chris explore, provoke and investigate the changing townscape, special character, architecture, urban design and planning issues in Britain's northern towns and cities. Not afraid to offer a frank opinion, point out bad architecture, and question planning decisions, this promises to be a lively and thought-provoking evening.
Adrian will focus on Leeds but will also touch on other nearby towns and cities - Bradford, Sheffield and Hull for example and the Northern Powerhouse Implications. His talk will be followed by a panel discussion with Adrian, Trust Director, Martin Hamilton; Urban Geographer, Rachael Unsworth, and Planning Committee Chair and professional architect, Mike Piet.
Headingley HEART Centre, 12 April, 7:30pm - All welcome, donations gratefully received.
"Their informed and opinionated commentary, gimlet-eyed and witty, is offered without fear or favour ... This is an angry, politically acute account. It is, no doubt about it, a book for the state we are in."
