Legopolis Mark 2 – The continuing story of Post-modern Leeds Architecture

Thursday 21 July, 18:30 - 20:00

Join us for Legopolos Mark 2! earlier in the year Leeds Civic Trust member Clifford Stead and Director Martin Hamilton led a walk considering post-modern architecture on the Leeds. The tour took in buildings such as the Magistrates Court, Westgate Point and Quarry House (from a distance) as we told the story of how the concept of the “Leeds Look” buildings of the late 80s and early 90s became the dominant architectural feature in our city. The “sea” of red brick and grey slate that we see today didn’t happen by accident.

We only covered some of the story in our earlier walk. This time buildings covered include the ASDA HQ and other “south of the river” buildings including “The Embankment”, Brewery Wharf and other Thatcher era Leeds Development Corporation schemes, Sovereign Street buildings, Vicar Lane (including a glimpse of the 80’s market building that never happened!) and finishing with a proper look at Quarry Hill.

We will meet at 6.30pm at our offices in Wharf Street.

Tickets are £5.00 for Leeds Civic Trust members and £7.00 for non-members.
