Heritage Open Days Event & Support Grants 2024

We are delighted to announce the return of our Event and Support Grants!

After a fantastic 2023, which saw 19 new events join the Heritage Open Days Festival with the support of our grants, we are delighted to be bringing them back for another year!

Our events support grants are designed to encourage events that advocate Leeds Creative practitioners, freelancers and historians and to support communities and organisations that wouldn’t normally be able to take part and require further support.

Background Information:

Our Heritage Open Days Event & Support Grants are intended to facilitate events hosted during the annual Heritage Open Days festival here in Leeds (6 – 15 September 2024)

Whether there is a local figure you’d like to celebrate, a great story you would love to tell, or you’d like to open your place of work or home, we’d love you to take part and support your event, both financially and practically.

We have two grants available;

  1. Event Grant – Up to £500 towards an imaginative or ‘themed’ event, to include financial support for a creative practitioner, freelancer, historian, guest speaker.

  1. Support Grant – A community asset grant of up to £150 towards equipment for your event – this could be towards exhibition boards, printing costs, AV equipment.

What is Heritage Open Days?

Over 5,500 events take place throughout the country, created by more than 2,000 organisers and 46,000 volunteers. Heritage Open Days is England’s largest cultural festival, taking place annually every September.

Leeds Civic Trust has been involved with Heritage Open Days for over 20 years – we help to market the festival here in Leeds, producing leaflets, city wide posters, publicise events on social media, distribute flyers and generally getting the word out! We’re also not ashamed to say it, but we are ‘Heritage Open Days Super-Fans’! and our steering group have built up brilliant relationships throughout the city and know the festival and how its organised inside out. We can help you with queries such as organising an event, registering your event, insurance, publicity, and we can even help you find a venue.

Heritage Open Days is a wonderful day out, whether with family, friends or exploring alone. Past examples of events have ranged from dance workshops, spoken word events, exhibitions and singalongs, to the ever popular walks, talks and tours.

Event Grants – up to £500 grant available

Calling all community groups, artists, historians, storytellers and event makers! Would you like to help make Leeds Heritage Open Days the best yet? Small grants of £50 to £500 are available from the Trust, with up to £150 available for equipment and £500 for an imaginative event or themed event.

Even if you have opened in the past, you could use this funding towards something new for your audience such as an exhibition, trail, workshop, performance or an event.

Past events have included theatrical performances, arts and craft activities, pub quizzes, ghost tours, to the ever-popular exhibitions, walks and tours.

Support Grant – Up to £150 for your event

If a piece of equipment, for example – high-viz jackets, portable speakers, exhibition boards or printed material would make a difference to your event – why not apply to our Support Grant pot?

Please note, we have a small pot set aside, and whilst we would like to support as many events as possible regrettably, some applications may miss out on funding this year.
