Engineering, flax and the 20th century creation of Holbeck Urban Village We also look at the development of transport in Leeds which enabled the manufactured goods in and out of the City
We start at the Railway station to discuss the history of the railways, the ‘AI’ of its’ day. The walk passes through City Square, which was the brainchild of one of the Holbeck Industrialists. We then move on to Victoria Bridge to see where ‘Hol’ Beck flows into the River Aire. Matthew Murray lived locally – we see the site of his world Famous Round Foundry. We then move on to the iconic Temple Mills of John Marshall, one of the wealthiest men in the country at the time.
