OLD Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days 2020

This year’s Heritage Open Days is going to be a bit different from previous years! The current pandemic and the important need for social distancing measures is slightly at odds with the walks, talks and tours we associate fondly with this national festival. But fear not, the team at Leeds Civic Trust are still keen to bring us all together, allowing us virtual access to some of the city’s hidden treasures, and to hear the diverse stories of the city from the comfort of our own homes. During the last few months, we’ve been waiting for an announcement from the national Heritage Open Days team, and a few weeks ago the green light for the festival was given. Although the national team are not discouraging ‘physical’ events, here at the Trust we don’t feel these would be suitable in a compact city location. Therefore we’re focusing on offering an exciting and innovative programme of online events, as well as a number of self-guided walks that you’ll be able to download and complete at your leisure and attend within your respective bubbles! We will have more news next month, but for now we wanted to let you know the latest update.

Get Involved

Being a part of Heritage Open Days couldn't be easier, and as the Leeds Coordinating Team, we're here to help get your idea off the ground. Whether there is a local figure you'd like to celebrate, a great story you would love to tell, or you'd like to share your place of work, or home, we'd love you to take part.

Be Part of a National Festival!

Over 5,500 events take place, created by more than 2,000 organisers and 46,000 volunteers. Heritage Open Days is England's largest cultural festival, taking place annually every September. In Leeds the event is coordinated by our lovely team at the Trust. We produce and print 10,000 festival programmes that can be picked up throughout the city, we also help organises to host events and can assist with event registration, bookings, insurance and publicity to help make your event a success.

Heritage Open Days is a wonderful day out, whether with family, friends or exploring alone. Past examples of events have ranged from dance workshops, spoken word events, exhibitions and singalongs, to the event popular walks, talks and tours.
