How to Apply for a Blue Plaque
If you'd like to nominate a person, event or building for a Leeds Civic Trust Blue Plaque, please take a look at our criteria, guidance notes and nomination form.
All nominations are considered by the Trust’s Heritage Panel, which meets quarterly, in January, April, July, and October. Due to the current long list of approved blue plaques, and an average of around five unveilings each year, any newly approved nominations may not be scheduled for unveiling until after 2028.
Once a nomination is approved, we will arrange an initial meeting to discuss permissions, funding, and wording. The Trust can begin progressing this work ahead of 2028; however, this stage is currently taking longer than usual due to the high number of plaques already in the programme.
From the point a plaque is actively in development, it typically takes a further 1–2 years to reach unveiling. Overall, plaques approved by our Trustees currently take an average of 3–4 years to be completed, depending on the complexity of permissions and other requirements.
If you are submitting a nomination linked to a specific anniversary, we recommend taking these extended timescales into account.

The next meeting of the Heritage and Culture Panel will take place in April 2026. Any nominations submitted before then will not be reviewed until that time.
If you would like your nomination to be considered at the April meeting, please submit it no later than 10 April 2026.
After the panel reviews the nominations, they will be forwarded to our Board of Trustees for final approval. All nominators will be informed of the decision by the end of May 2026.
Please note: Due to the current number of approved blue plaques awaiting installation, any new nominations that are approved may not be scheduled for unveiling until after 2028.
