For Heritage Open Days 2025, we are delighted to unveil our 204th Blue Plaque to celebrate Gipton Fire Station, a vital part of East Leeds’ history that served the community for nearly eight decades and is now repurposed as a Community Hub.

The unveiling will be followed by the premiere of Space2’s new one-woman show, based on the life of Penny Rowntree, the first woman firefighter in West Yorkshire. This powerful performance is part of a three-year collaboration with Leeds Beckett University exploring women’s untold stories in the fire service.

Time: Arrival time from 18:30 onwards for refreshments. The unveiling will take place from 19:00 followed by a new one women show at 19:30.
