Leeds400 Theatrical Walks with Run of the Mill History

As part of the Leeds400 celebrations, we are pleased to announce further collaborative walks with Jude Kershaw on behalf of Run of the Mill history. On these immersive theatrical walks, you will be guided around Leeds by a resident of the time who will tell you about her life in Leeds – join her in 1646, 1830, 1918 and 1999.

Visit Leeds in 1646

Saturday 25th April. 13:00

The story of a town, warts and all!

Venture back in time and visit Leeds during a time of plague with a time travelling resident as part of Leeds400!

Visit the towne of Leedes in a time when Yorkshire was known for the strength of its beer, soldiers fought in the street, and Plague tore through rows of wooden houses. This event is part tour-part promenade performance. Ask your historical host anything you want, she’ll be sure to have an answer! This is a unique way of experiencing history that shouldn’t be missed!

We will start outside Leeds Minster before moving on to, Briggate and ending at St John’s Church, one of the finest 17th century churches in England! This journey will take approximately an hour and end with the option of joining us at a fine tavern after. Both local and national history will be covered. Revolution is in the air! 

Venture back in time and visit Leeds, as it spills out into the countryside, with a time travelling resident as part of Leeds400!

As the Navvies finish the new Turnpike road running from Sheepscar to Meanwood village, take the opportunity to meet the residents before the life in the village changes forever. This event is part tour-part promenade performance. Ask your historical host anything you want, she’ll be sure to have an answer! This is a unique way of experiencing history that shouldn’t be missed!

We will start by the junction of Buslingthorpe Lane and Scott Hall Street before moving through the woods and ending at the field by Ridge Grove bus stop, just in time for the opening of the Turnpike Road! This journey will take approximately an hour and end with the option of joining us to visit Meanwood Urban Valley Farm’s cafe after. Both local and national history will be covered. Visit Leeds in 1918

There’s a long, long, trail a winding…

Venture back in time and visit Leeds in 1918 for a story of Canaries, cages and the war on peace, led by a time travelling resident as part of Leeds400! As The Great War comes to its close, what will peace bring to the residents of Leeds? 

This event is part tour-part promenade performance. Ask your historical host anything you want, she’ll be sure to have an answer! This is a unique way of experiencing history that shouldn’t be missed!

We will start by the junction of Armley Road and Albion Way moving past HMP Leeds and ending at New Wortley Cemetery. This journey will take approximately an hour and end with the option of joining us for refreshments after. Both local and national history will be covered. Here’s the story from A to Z…

Explore the student life and music in Leeds at the eve of a new millennium, led by a time travelling resident as part of Leeds400! We’re getting Back to Basics with Wannabe pop stars and climbing the charts with Leeds’ Tubthumping anarchists.

We encourage former students who studied in Leeds at this time to attend!

This event is part tour-part promenade performance and the only time you’ll find a historical re-enactment set in the 1990s!  Ask your historical host anything you want, she’ll be sure to have an answer! This is a unique way of experiencing history that shouldn’t be missed!

We will start outside The Brudenell Social Club, moving through Hyde Park and Woodhouse Moor and ending at The Fenton Pub. This journey will take approximately an hour and end with the option of joining us for drink after to celebrate the year 2000 arriving! Both local and national history will be covered.
