Sherburn in Elmet Heritage Walk

Join us on this guided walk to trace the history of Sherburn in Elmet from medieval times to the present. 

Thursday 20th June, 10.30 – 12:30

This walk will trace the development of Sherburn from early medieval times to the present and will include a visit to the Grade 1 listed All Saints Church with extensive views – on a clear day – across to York Minster.

We will hear about the influence of the Archbishop of York when he was Lord of the Manor, the recent discovery of a Roman settlement, Sherburn’s importance as a centre for the coaching trade and more recently aircraft manufacture and lots more!

Our guide for the walk will be Kevin Sibson, Chair of Sherburn Local History Society.

Public transport: The nearest train station with a service from Leeds is at South Milford which is about a 1.5 mile walk from our meeting place. There is a two hourly bus service from Leeds Bus Station – number 164. Please check times.

Accessibility: Please wear appropriate footwear. The walk is mainly on level pavements but there is a stretch that crosses a field which can be muddy after heavy rain.
