SOYO – Quarry Hill Redevelopment Announced
Trust Director, Martin Hamilton was present at the announcement by Caddick of their planned £300 million investment in apartments, hotel, bars and public realm on Quarry Hill.
Martin commented:
“Quarry Hill is really starting to motor after many years of inactivity. When added to the new City College (already on site), improvements to the West Yorkshire Playhouse (planning permission has been submitted), the next five years could be an exciting time for this part of Leeds”. He added “Leeds Civic Trust will judge the schemes’ success by the quality of the buildings, how open Quarry Hill becomes to the rest of the city, and how inviting the proposed public realm will be. We must also ensure that we open up to the rest of the city. Quarry Hill is an island site – but areas including Mabgate to the East of York Road, must be considered integral to this scheme”.
Commenting on the proposed SOYO brand name Martin said:
“You can forgive people for thinking of Quarry Hill as a place of historical importance that has been in limbo for the last couple of decades. Caddick hope that a new brand will change the perception of the area. Whether this is the case, or whether we will continue to call the area Quarry Hill remains to be seen.
We wish corporate members, Caddick, all the best with thir ambitious plans.
