To celebrate 60 years of Leeds Civic Trust, we have brought together the voices of those who have shaped its story, from founders and directors to volunteers and visionaries. The Oral Histories Project records the experiences, reflections, and memories of 16 people who have worked with or supported the Trust, past and present.
Through their words, we discover not only the history of the organisation but also how it has influenced the fabric of Leeds itself — its buildings, its communities, and its sense of civic identity.
Each conversation reveals a different perspective: from planning and architecture to art, activism, and education. Together, they form a living archive — a bridge between the Trust’s founding ideals in 1965 and the challenges and hopes of the city today.
Throughout 2026 we will be adding interviews from each of the 16 people, please keep checking back for information.
We hope to add new voices in the coming months and years.
