Join Leeds Civic Trust for the unveiling of our 210th Blue Plaque, commemorating Harry Guntrip (1901–1975), the internationally renowned psychologist, psychotherapist, and Congregational minister whose pioneering work helped shape modern psychoanalytic thought.

The unveiling ceremony will take place in the rear garden of the house.
We look forward to celebrating the life and achievements of this remarkable Leeds figure and marking his lasting contribution to psychology, psychotherapy, and the city of Leeds.
Please note: As this is a residential area, we kindly ask attendees to be considerate of residents when arriving and parking. Please ensure that driveways and footpaths are kept clear at all times.
There will also be no on-site toilets. We recommend using facilities at Asda Supermarket in Beeston before/after the unveiling.

Guntrip spent a significant part of his professional life in Leeds, serving first as a Congregational minister before becoming a psychotherapist and lecturer in psychiatry. He is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in Object Relations Theory and is recognised worldwide for his influential writings on personality development, human relationships, and mental health. His books, including Personality Structure and Human Interaction and Schizoid Phenomena, Object Relations and the Self, remain important texts in psychotherapy training today.
Beyond his academic achievements, Guntrip sought to bridge the worlds of spirituality and psychology, advocating for a compassionate and holistic approach to mental well-being. His legacy continues through charitable trusts established in his name, supporting psychotherapy training and access to therapy.
