In 2024, Leeds Civic Trust achieved the milestone of 200 blue plaques unveiled in Leeds. In our anniversary year this panel discussion will look at what we have achieved since the first plaque was unveiled in 1987 and will discuss what we can look forward to as we unveil the next 200.

This post-AGM discussion will celebrate the Trust achieving the milestone of 200 plaques unveiled and, in our 60th anniversary year, look forward to the next 200. We will consider the genesis of the Leeds Civic Trust historic Blue Plaques scheme, how the subjects included have changed over the years, the progress we have made in making the plaques scheme more representative of the city’s diverse history and what the next 200 years will look like.

Panel members will include Lord Mayor Abigail Marshall-Katung (who is also co-chair of the David Oluwale Memorial Association), Dr Kevin Grady former Director of Leeds Civic Trust who established the scheme in 1987, Susan Pitter author of the review into our blue plaques scheme, Lucy Moore Trustee and Chair of the Trust’s Heritage and Culture Panel who will chair the session. We will also be joined by a representative from Historic England who will talk about the national context (and the recently launched national blue plaques scheme)

The doors will open at 17:30, the talk will be preceded by the Trust’s AGM which begins at 17:45 sharp, with business completed by 18:30. Refreshments and canapes will then be served prior to our panel discussion, which starts at 19:00.

Please let us know if you plan to attend the AGM, the talk or both when reserving your tickets.

Please note: Associated AGM paperwork will be made available two weeks before the AGM on the Trust’s website – members will receive an email and notification in the mail when this has happened.
