Workplace Parking Levy Square

Workplace Parking Levy

Leeds City Council are undertaking a study into the possibility of introducing a new workplace parking levy for city centre businesses to raise funds for public transport improvements.

City centre businesses that offer parking to staff would be charged a levy that would be used to fund public transport improvements for the city, such as bus franchising and the proposed new mass transit system, for example.

Workplace Parking Levies are being considered by a number of cities across the country and are already in place in Nottingham.

Leeds City Council have created a new action plan to help them reach their transport targets in the Connecting Leeds Transport Strategy Report. Research into the possibility of implementing this new levy is still in very early stages.

Whilst funding has been secured for several transport improvements in Leeds, such as Dawsons Corner, Stanningley Bypass and Lawnswood Roundabout, a new report states that the “current level of funding is insufficient to cover all aspects” of the action plan.
